Reflections on My Birthday: Five Powerful Lessons I've Learned Over the Years

Happy April!

This month is special to me for two reasons. First, it's my birthday month! And second, it always feels like a time of new beginnings. Every year, I use my birthday as an opportunity to reflect on the past year and set intentions for the coming one. This year, as I look back, it hit me that there are some very key things I've learned over the years that have helped me live a more purposeful and inspired life. So today, I want to share five of those lessons with you in the hope that they will inspire you as much as they've inspired me.

Being your complete and total self is one of the most important things you can do in life. It's far better to be your authentic self and allow others to accept you for who you are. When you're being yourself, you'll also find that you attract people into your life who are like-minded and who will support and love you for who you are. Being your authentic self will also help you to build better relationships, both personal and professional. When people know that they can rely on you to be honest and genuine, they'll be more likely to trust and confide in you. So go out there and be the best version of yourself! The world is waiting for you.

Change is always possible.

No matter what your circumstances are, know that you can always choose to make positive changes in your life or your mindset. You have immense power to create the life you want. Making lasting changes in your life can seem daunting, but it doesn't have to be! By taking small steps and being mindful of your goals, you can set yourself up for success. Here are a few things I do all the time to chart a new course: 1. Define your goals and what do you want to change. 2. Make a plan and break your goal down into smaller, manageable steps. 3. Take action and start working towards your goal, one step at a time. Change is always possible, so never give up on yourself. All it takes is a little effort and a lot of courage. So go out there and make the change you want to see in the world!

Never stop learning.

One of the best things about being human is that we never stop learning. No matter how old we are, how advanced we are in our careers, or how much expertise we have in our industry, there's always room for us to grow and learn. This is especially true in today's rapidly changing world, where new technologies and ideas are constantly emerging. Continuing to learn helps us to stay ahead of the curve and remain relevant in our careers. It also keeps our minds active and sharp, preventing us from becoming complacent. And..it’s just plain fun and makes life exciting! Learning is what keeps us curious and motivated. When we stop learning, we stop growing. So…never stop learning. Never stop growing. Never stop being curious and motivated.

Nurture your relationships.

The people we surround ourselves with have a huge impact on our happiness and wellbeing. We are influenced by their energy, so it's important to choose our relationships wisely…and take care of those relationships! The people in our lives are the most important things we have. They not only inspire and drive us to be our best selves, but they also provide us with love, support, and laughter. Take the time to take care of your people. Spend time with them, be present, and let them know how much they mean to you. And if you find yourself in a toxic relationship, don't be afraid to walk away. Life is precious and fragile–so make the most of it while you can with the people you love.

Do more of what makes you happy.

We all have different things that make us happy. For some, it's spending time with family and friends, for others, it's being outdoors or pursuing a favorite hobby. Whatever it is that brings a smile to your face, it's important to make time for those things in your life. Life is too short to waste time doing things we don't enjoy. If you're not happy with something, change it. If you’re not happy with our job, for example, look for a new one that is more fulfilling. And if there's something you’ve always wanted to do, like learn to play the guitar or take up painting, go for it! Too often we let our fears hold us back from doing the things we really want to do. But if we take a chance and step out of our comfort zone, we just might be surprised at how much joy it can bring. Don't let anything hold you back from living a happy life. Pursue your passions and do more of what makes you happy. You'll be glad you did!

These are just a few of the lessons I've learned over the years and I’m looking forward to the many more I haven't even realized yet. But one thing is for sure–I'm grateful for every lesson, because each one has made me into the person I am today. So on this birthday of mine, as I reflect on all that I've learned and all that I'm still learning, I want to thank each of you for your support, love, and presence in my life. You’ve all changed me for the better.
